Finding the property
Two roads in, and then it gets vague
Interstate 8 runs along the eastern side and State Route 67 carries the traffic north and south. After that it is local knowledge.
Woodside Avenue and Riverford Road are the roads most people navigate by. Beyond them the community spreads out across roughly seven square miles at a little over four hundred feet, with El Cajon Mountain — El Capitan to everyone who lives here — filling the north-east horizon, and Lake Jennings, El Capitan Reservoir and San Vicente Reservoir around it.
The practical problem is addresses. A lot of properties out here sit at the end of a shared or unmarked drive, behind a gate, with the house not visible from the road. A map pin drops you at a fence line. When you call, the useful details are: which side of the 67, the nearest recognisable turn, whether there is a gate, and where a van can physically stop. That is not us being difficult — it is the difference between arriving and circling.
Barona Resort and Casino sits on tribal land nearby. Tribal land is a separate jurisdiction with its own security and its own arrangements, and that is not something an outside locksmith walks onto. Everything on the surrounding community side is ordinary work.
What actually needs locking
Ranch outbuildings, mobile homes and trailers
Lakeside's housing is mostly single-family and mobile home communities, and its property boundaries are long.
On a semi-rural property the lock inventory is longer than in a suburb. There is the house, and then the gate at the road, the barn, the tack room, a feed store, a workshop, a shipping container used as storage, and a horse trailer. Almost all of that is secured with padlocks, and padlocks out here take a beating — full sun, dust, and nobody servicing them from one year to the next. Then the key snaps in one, usually on a Sunday.
Extraction is routine, and the more useful conversation is what goes back on. A padlock with a decent body, a shackle sized so it cannot be levered, and keying that makes sense — outbuildings alike so you carry one key, house separate, and a master arrangement if other people help with the animals.
Mobile and manufactured homes are a significant part of the housing here and they need saying out loud: they take a different lockset to a conventional stick-built door, in a different size and often a different configuration. If you tell us it is a mobile home when you ring, we arrive with hardware that fits. If you do not, we may have to come back, and neither of us wants that.
The Lakeside Rodeo Grounds, an eight-acre all-volunteer site that hosts sanctioned events every year, is as good a landmark as any for directions.

Padlocks that finally gave up
Sun, dust and years without a service. The key snaps before the lock does. We extract it, open the gate, and put back something that will still be working next summer.

Across East County
Lakeside sits above Santee and El Cajon, with Poway over the hill to the west and Alpine up the 8 to the east.
Which side of the 67, the nearest turn, and whether there is a gate — that is all we need. Every job on this page is the same job on our emergency locksmith, residential locksmith and full locksmith services pages — this page is only about doing it here. The whole coverage map is on the home page.
FAQ
Lakeside questions
The key snapped off in my gate padlock.
Leave it alone and call. Pushing the remaining piece further in or attacking it with pliers is what turns a five-minute extraction into a cut-off lock.
We take the broken half out, open the gate, and talk about replacing a padlock that clearly was not up to sitting out there.
Can you key all my outbuildings to one key?
Yes, and most people out here should. Carrying six keys for six padlocks is how keys get left in locks and lost in the yard.
We would normally key the outbuildings alike, keep the house on its own, and add a master key if other people help with the animals or the property.
It is a mobile home. Does that change anything?
It changes the hardware. Manufactured homes use different lockset sizes and configurations from a conventional stick-built door, so an off-the-shelf replacement often will not fit.
Say so when you call and we bring what fits. It is the single most useful thing you can tell us about a Lakeside job.
My address is hard to find. What should I tell you?
Which side of the 67 you are on, the nearest recognisable turn, whether there is a gate and how it opens, and where a van can stop.
Plenty of properties here sit at the end of an unmarked or shared drive where a map pin lands on a fence line rather than a house.
Do you work on the reservation?
No. Tribal land is a separate jurisdiction with its own security arrangements, and that is not something an outside locksmith walks onto.
Everything in the surrounding Lakeside community is ordinary work for us, day or night.
Are you really open at 3am out here?
Twenty-four hours, seven days, including holidays. The drive out to Lakeside at that hour is what it is and we will tell you honestly rather than quote you a number we cannot meet.
Have photo ID and something linking you to the property ready — we check before opening anything.
