FAQ
Questions about our services
Do I have to bring anything to you?
No. There is nowhere to bring it. We are a mobile locksmith: the key machines, blanks, cylinders and programming equipment travel in the van, and the work happens at your house, your office or wherever the car is parked.
Can you make a car key if I have lost every key?
Yes. An all-keys-lost job means we originate a key to the vehicle rather than copy one, then program it to the car's immobiliser. We do it at the vehicle, so a tow to the dealership is usually unnecessary.
Have the VIN, your photo ID and the registration ready: we confirm the car is yours before we make a key for it.
My key fob has stopped working. New fob or new battery?
Try the battery first; it is the cheapest thing on the list and it is often the answer. If a fresh battery does not fix it, the fob itself may have failed or lost its programming.
We supply and program replacement fobs, and we can reprogram an existing one where the vehicle supports it.
What is transponder programming?
Most cars built since the late 1990s have an immobiliser: a chip in the key talks to the car, and the engine will not start unless the car recognises it. Cutting the metal blade alone gets you into the car but will not start it.
Programming pairs the chip with your vehicle. We do it on site with the car present: it cannot be done remotely by anyone, whatever they tell you.
Can you set up a master key system for my business?
Yes. A master key system lets one key open everything while each staff key opens only the doors that person needs: stock room, office, back door.
Tell us the doors and who needs to reach what, and we will design the system around that rather than around whatever hardware is already on the doors.
Can a broken key be removed without replacing the lock?
Almost always. We extract the broken piece from the cylinder and cut a replacement key. The lock keeps working and you do not pay for hardware you did not need.
Do you cut duplicate and spare keys on site?
Yes. House keys, spare keys and most car keys are cut in the van while we are with you. High security keys use controlled blanks, so we confirm you are entitled to a copy before cutting one.
