Where it sits
Two freeways for edges and two more within reach
Interstate 15 forms the eastern boundary and Interstate 805 the western one, across roughly ten and a half thousand acres.
Inside that, Mira Mesa Boulevard is the main east–west spine, with Black Mountain Road and Camino Santa Fe carrying much of the rest. State Route 52 runs below the southern side and State Route 56 crosses the north, which between them make this one of the better-connected parts of the city to reach — a genuine advantage when someone rings at three in the morning.
The community was laid out from the late 1960s with the housing boom starting in 1969, and it grew faster than its own services for years. Today it holds well over twenty-three thousand homes and around eighty thousand residents, with a median age in the low thirties — a young, working, largely owner-occupied suburb rather than a commuter dormitory.
What sits around it is the reason. Sorrento Valley's biotech and technology employers are immediately west, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is south, UC San Diego is a short run down the 805, and Miramar College — built on the old Hourglass Field site — is inside the community. Mira Mesa Market Center is the commercial anchor.
Second and third owners
Tract housing that has changed hands a few times
Homes built from around 1970 onward are now on their second or third set of owners, and often their first honest look at the locks.
A house built in the 1970s or 1980s and sold three times has accumulated keys the way a car accumulates receipts. Sellers, agents, relatives, contractors, previous tenants — nobody kept a list, and there is no way to reconstruct one. Rekeying on the day you take possession is the standard fix: the locks stay, the pins change, and every key handed out before that moment stops working.
The other pattern here is genuinely local. We just bought a house here. What is the first thing to do?

There are six adults in the house and everyone needs a key.
That is a keying question rather than a security one, and it has a clean answer. We key the front, back and side doors alike so one key covers the property, then cut the number of copies you actually need.
If part of the house works as a separate unit, a master key lets the owner reach everything while each household keeps its own door.
Can you make a car key in a work car park?
Yes — we come to the vehicle and cut and program the key there, including transponders and fobs, so the car does not have to be towed anywhere.
Have the registration and photo ID with you. We confirm the car is yours before we program anything to it.
I finish a shift at two in the morning. Are you actually available?
Yes. We are open twenty-four hours, seven days a week, including holidays — and with the 15, 805, 52 and 56 all within reach, this is one of the more straightforward parts of the city to get to at that hour.
What we will not do is promise you a number of minutes on a web page. Call and we will tell you honestly.
My garage side door has a different key to everything else.
Very common on tract housing where the garage hardware was fitted separately. It is also easily fixed — we rekey it to match the rest of the house.
If you would rather keep it separate, that is fine too. The point is to have it be a decision rather than an accident.
Can you get onto MCAS Miramar?
No. Military installations control their own access and that goes through the base and a sponsor, not through a locksmith at the gate.
